First International Forum ‘You and me, what is the difference?’

On Wednesday, November 4, the students of the 1st year of Baccalaureate of the Diploma Program participated in the FIRST INTERNATIONAL FORUM on discrimination under the slogan "You and me, what is the difference?"

An activity that is part of the Creativity, Action and Service program of the International Baccalaureate, some studies of recognized prestige that only the Colegio Arenas Internacional offers in Lanzarote.

This virtual exchange, which has been introduced for the first time in the Center's programming, is carried out with the students of the Diploma Program of the Educational Unit “Cap. Edmundo Chiriboga ”from the city of Riobamba, in the Province of Chimborazo (Ecuador).

Thus, the students of the Colegio Arenas Internacional have participated, so far, in two meetings; In the first, in addition to the presentation between the students of the two educational centers, a cultural exchange was carried out in which they spoke in a relaxed way about the customs and traditions of Ecuador and Spain. From here came the idea of ​​holding a forum in a second meeting in which students could reflect and analyze the problem of discrimination.

The speakers at this forum were María Camejo, Bo Hao Jin, Sofía Acosta, Victoria Betancort, Amina Deryckere and Zhexi Chen from Colegio Arenas Internacional who exchanged their reflections with the students of the “Cap. Edmundo Chiriboga ”. They addressed such important issues as machismo, economic inequality, religious discrimination, racism, bullying, etc

At the end, all the participants took as a reference this beautiful phrase by the English writer Virginia Woolf:

"There is no barrier, lock, or bolt that you can impose on the freedom of my mind."

This second meeting ended by thanking the teachers and the Culture Promoter of the Municipality of Riobamba who accompanied the students from the two participating countries.
