The Academic Term in Bath

Pupils at Colegio Arenas Atlántico and Arenas International School in Lanzarote are continuing to make progress in one of the most enriching educational experiences of their schooling: the Academic Term in England, a programme that combines learning, language immersion, socialising and personal development in a truly international environment.

During their stay in Bath, the students stay at Sulis Manor, the Arenas Education Group’s residential college in England, from where they go about their daily academic routine and take part in a range of cultural, educational and social activities.

enlightenedIntegrated into British academic life

Wearing their school uniforms and fully integrated into the life of their schools, our pupils experience a genuine immersion in the British education system during these months.

enlightenedEach day offers a new opportunity to communicate in English in real-life situations, broaden their knowledge and interact with fellow students and teachers in a different setting to the usual one. Learning also continues outside the classroom through socialising, activities and experiences that form part of their stay in England.

This immersion means that English ceases to be merely an academic subject and becomes the language of communication in their everyday lives. It is a natural and practical way of developing, in particular, speaking skills, comprehension and confidence when communicating in another language.

enlightenedMuch more than just learning English

The Academic Term also has a significant element of personal growth. Living away from their usual surroundings for several weeks helps students develop key skills such as independence, responsibility, adaptability and the ability to get on with others.

At the same time, discovering new customs, getting to know another culture and navigating an international environment broadens their world view and contributes to both their academic and personal development.

Bath, a university city with a rich educational and cultural heritage, thus becomes an ideal setting for continued learning and personal development.

enlightenedSulis Manor, the hub of our international programmes

Sulis Manor is a cornerstone of the Arenas Education Group’s international project and, throughout the academic year, hosts a range of programmes and experiences designed to promote English language learning through genuine linguistic and cultural immersion.

These include academic terms, language immersion programmes, educational stays for Year 6 primary pupils and international summer courses, the latter of which are also open to students from other schools.

enlightened

Each programme is tailored to different ages and academic stages, but they all share the same objective: to offer pupils the opportunity to learn the language by using it every day and to make the international experience an essential part of their education.

enlightenedAn experience that leaves a lasting impression

Beyond the knowledge gained, an international stay involves learning to cope in new environments, forming new relationships, tackling small everyday challenges and discovering new personal abilities.

Our pupils thus continue their Academic Term in Bath, gaining experiences, lessons and memories that will form part of their educational journey.

At the Arenas Educational Group, we see internationalisation as a fundamental part of education and as an opportunity to prepare our young people to function with confidence in an increasingly globalised world.

Because learning a language is much more than just studying it: it is living it.
