Arenas International School, recognised as the only school in Lanzarote with environmental certification, has taken a new step in its commitment to sustainability by being awarded the European Aquamarine School, granted by the European Blue Schools Network. This achievement represents recognition of the efforts of the school and its educational community in promoting environmental awareness and ocean education.

The ‘Aquamarine Blue School’ certification is the second level of a series of recognitions awarded by the European Network of Blue Schools, which distinguishes schools for their commitment to projects related to the sea and oceans. Arenas International School joins this network by achieving the intermediate level, after more than two years working on projects to raise awareness and educate about the importance of marine ecosystems, with the aim of reaching the category of ‘Overseas Blue School’, intended for those schools that maintain a sustained effort for more than five years.
Last year, the school submitted its candidacy for certification with the ‘Aula del Mar’ project, developed in the four educational stages of the school: Infant, Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate. These initiatives included activities related to the identification of marine species and ecosystems, the study of the interaction between humans and the oceans, as well as campaigns to raise awareness of the problems affecting these habitats.
This academic year, Arenas International School reaffirms its environmental commitment through new projects focused on the oceans and the conservation of the species that inhabit them. With a focus on environmental education and collective action, students will actively participate in activities ranging from ecosystem research to environmental awareness.
